Google Wallet appIf you are one of the millions of people who use Google’s insanely popular email service Gmail, you might soon be paying your bills through the service. As yet another way that the search and tech giant Google might soon be injecting itself into your life, there has been reports that Google will actually be outsourcing the data gathering for this bill payment system through a third-party collaborator – one that has yet to be publicly disclosed. The Gmail bill pay service is currently referred to as “Pony Express,” but that might just be a code name for whatever the system ends up being. Currently there is no official word from Google about Pony Express, but it is expected to become available to the public by the end of 2015.

At this time, there is a ton of speculation surrounding this upcoming addition to the functionality behind Gmail, and for great reason. Those of us who work with and discuss financial matters and bill payment services in general will have yet another tool to share with those who might have any kind of difficulty finding and making payments on their bills, and the way Pony Express is said to work sounds like it couldn’t be much easier.

The way it looks like it will operate is by having you opt in to the service then enter your personal billing information like your bank account and routing numbers or some other form of payment details like debit card information. Then, you will select which bills you wish to have paid through Pony Express, which will then collect your payment information for you. Those bills will be sent to a special folder where accountholders will be able to view and pay them with just a couple clicks of the mouse.

What makes this service worth paying attention to is not so much the fact alone that people will be able to make payments on their bills through Gmail so much as the amount of time  being able to do so will save. Especially for those who will be able to pay every single one of their bills through Pony Express, the time saved from mailing out checks, logging in to various websites or sitting on hold for who knows how long.

Does this service sound like something you would like to use to make payments on your various bills? Or does it seem like a service you would want to avoid? Let us know in the comments below.
